Pardon my ignorance. I've never used a server before, but now that it is being opened up for free in Lion, is this something that I could benefit from? What can it be used for from average home consumers?
Not much. Most of the 'server' features are really only truly useful in server environments. About the only one I can see as useful for home use is WebDAV sharing for iPad. (i.e. right now the iPad can't see your Mac's network share, so you can't access files that are on your desktop from your iPad - with WebDAV sharing, according to that link, you can, easily.)

EJBasile: for the record, do you know what happens when you ask for extra anesthesia before surgery? :) ;)
it's a rare moment that someone is awake through surgery. usually, i understand, it's a result of a specific patient's reaction to anesthesia, not the administration of it.
of course, that didn't stop me from expressing my fears, the last time I was under :) the anesthesiologist was very thorough, he has clearly answered that question a lot.

Classic B&W mountain photography is probably my favorite of all time. I can just stare at Bradford Washburn's photos for days. I think you did really well here and I enjoyed this one for sure. My only complaint is that the right side left me wanting more, like we weren't quite finished with the ridge.

I've always had great service from T-Mobile.
I hear that customers with iPhones on T-Mobile who need help get transferred to the "Unsupported Handset Area" where they more than help out since there are so many iPhones on T-Mobile and they are a provider in Europe...

A lot of services are missing from server admin, some have dumbed down features in the server.app (which replaces server preferences) but a lot is missing.
Doesn't seem right to remove services. Perhaps they will reappear later in the beta.
At least for my use, all the services seem to be present (except Printer Server, which I use but don't really need, as all it really offers is spooling and is otherwise a PITA).
I don't really have time to install and look into this. I'll just investigate when the final release comes out, and maybe a .1 after that! I already know of some Lion issues that will keep me away for a while anyway. And as long as Snow Leopard server will work with Lion clients I can certainly wait!

i think we found our problem, this is stupid
to install windows i had to unplug my 2 raid drives, i jsut inserted the cp disk withot installing bootcamp (can't install on raid) and after 10 secs the win xp install started
after that i replugged the raid drives and i can now switch boot disks as with bootcamp... strange huh?
but now this update... i mean, the ycan't expect a speeduser to just throw away his raid and reinstall to a single disk.
and if this is not possible( raid update) the yshould clearly start stating this in their installation instructions and notes, not the small print or some hard to find support site to hide the issue
Okay, finally I CONFIRM that the software raid used by Mac OS X is NOT compatible with the EFI upgrades :( ... too bad.
Why ? Because i just finished to install a fresh copy of Mac OS X on my 400 Gig "DATA" drive made the upgrade with this distribution ... and it worked like a charm !

I went to a talk at a Computer Forensics Show a few months ago and the speaker talked about SDXC cards and how it's based on an MS standard. As far as I recall, the circuitry in the chip is different but the pinsouts are the same as SDHC. If so, any current Mac with an SD card slot should be able to be updated appropriately to read SDXC cards. Any thoughts on this?

I haven't forgotten about those either, the sponsorship scandal was bad for the liberals, just as the Mulroney kick-backs were bad for the conservatives ... we could go on like this to confederation if you want. :rolleyes: Oh and the whole Paul Martin re-registering his ships wasn't to avoid employing Canadians, it was to avoid taxes. It was a bad political move, but no more or less than what other companies do to pass through the tax loopholes that both parties have either created or do nothing about.

This is why a minority government is actually more like democracy in action than in other times, yet we seem to be run either by children who must have their way, or those that seemingly crave power to satisfy their own selves first.
Our first-past-the post system has flaws for sure, but I think one reason why we really haven't had much of a debate on the issue here is two-fold. First, there's no magic answer to distribute house of commons seats based on the country's percentage of vote; second and most prevalent to the politicians is that a majority government would become even more of a rarity.

Great thread for all of us green thumbs out there! Of all the specialized forums I have belonged to, none of the folks are as helpful as the photographers. IMHO
For me, photography is a passion for the moment. Maybe one captures a piece of time whether it is for a second or a century. Sometimes I know what I want to capture, but other times I just take pictures in the spur of the moment. An example: lets say you are walking with or without you significant other and it is during the winter. You approach a house with a snowman in the front yard and you think, wow that snowman is cool and it brings back memories, so I had better take a photo to recapture an image from the past. Although, one can look to the future too! This is the beauty of photography! There are no rules, limits, or boundaries, hence zero gravity! :)

First shot especially changes colour as it gets near the white square and there is a definite difference in texture in a circular shape around the home square in the second shot.
Might happen on the final release but this is not a picture of it and just someone after a pathetic 5mins of fame.

I think most do, even those who aren't conspiracy theorists. But it doesn't alleviate the fact that what you said remains true. The question is, do you want that type of control hovering overhead for a gadget that would make life easier? If someone had a million dollar motorcycle made for you but later they said, I get to watch you wherever you go. And you were uneasy about it, but loved the speed and the adrenaline rush of the ride and said to yourself "well I'll be obeying the speed limit anyway" so you let it go and kept the bike. Soon you found out they weren't just watching you when you were riding, they watched you wherever the bike was. Therefore, regardless of speed limit and adherence to the law, you were still monitored. A little creepy huh? Lol. :D

It appears more of a ghost than any real product. If they wanted a bigger screen, it would have made more sense in the iPod Touch. That device would bridge the user-gap between iPad better than a larger iPhone.
As for smaller iPhone, can't really say what I'd be happy to do without for the sake of size. If calling was core, would I give up app store? browsing? movies? music? camera? Retina? battery? accessories?

This is the stupidest POS news. AM I RIGHT? Can't buy an iPhone ONLINE in NY for a day and something is interesting about this? I can't believe CNBC is so anxiously awaiting tablet and new iphone news that they think this is significant.
This has been going on for a long time. You could not order an iPhone for at least for the past month from AT&T in New York state. I know. I tried and family members have tried as well. I thought it was a website error originally until criss1205 had mentioned it. It's just that nobody had checked this out until a couple of days ago.
